Executive director of Louisville nonprofit receives 2021 Peace Medal

Trinity High School selects nonprofit leader for longtime efforts to ensure clean water for vulnerable families around the world

Louisville, KY — Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky has named Sister Larraine Lauter, Executive Director of Water With Blessings, as the school’s 2021 recipient of the Trinity Peace Medal.

As the 51st recipient of this prestigious award, the school is recognizing the Ursuline nun and nonprofit executive for her decades of service as an educator, immigrant rights advocate and leader in using technology to advance clean water for vulnerable children in 48 countries and the Navajo Nation.

In her remarks, Sister Larraine offers Water With Blessings’ longstanding collaboration with Houston, Texas, business owner Bill McGraw, founder of Quality Home Products of Texas, as a model for young men to emulate during their careers and lives.

Mr. McGraw, inspired by Tom’s Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie’s business model, as described in Start Something That Matters, began setting annual goals for charity rather than simply charting higher sales and profits in his successful business each year.

Bill McGraw decides how many water filters he wants to support through Water With Blessings and then determines how many new sales of water treatment systems and custom closets he needs to reach each year to realize his charity goals.

In her speech, Sister Larraine encourages each Trinity High School graduate to “be like Bill [McGraw]. Just set your goals according to what you want to give…be that love, integrity, water filters or bricks for another high school where bright guys like you may not have an education.”
