The Ultimate Hawaii Packing List

The first time I visited Hawaii was with my now-husband in 2009. Somewhere along a secluded volcanic rock trail near Wailea in Maui, he proposed. Since then, we’ve returned countless times—now, with our kids, who’ve grown up with happy memories across the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, Oahu, and Lanai.

Packing for Hawaii isn’t about overthinking it—it’s about being prepared for all the different ways you’ll spend your days, from lounging by the pool to trekking through rainforest trails. The key is keeping things light, breathable, and versatile. I pack with the goal of feeling comfortable and pulled-together—performance-minded, and never too fussy. My Hawaii suitcase always ends up being a mix of easy fabrics, functional gear, and a curated capsule of polished pieces that work anywhere.
